�Thinking Outside of the Box�: Exploring a Conceptual Synthesis for Research in the Area of Athletic Labor Migration

  • The global migrations of athletic workers have increased dramatically in magnitude, composition, and direction in recent years. Studies examining these migrations have, however, remained limited to specific areas and have restricted their vision to those workers employed in the athletic sector. Few studies have drawn on concepts derived from research tracing the migrations of workers in other areas: the highly skilled for example. This paper shows how an understanding of athletic labor migration could be extended by drawing on research from the area of highly skilled labor migration. The paper also proposes a potential framework for future research in this area.

    Dans les dernières années, la migration mondiale des travailleurs sportifs a augmenté dramatiquement au plan de la magnitude, de la composition et de la direction. Cependant, les études portant sur ces migrations sont demeurées limitées à certains lieux et ont restreint leur vision aux travailleurs employés dans le secteur sportif. Peu d�études ont emprunté des concepts de la recherche traçant les migrations des travailleurs dans d�autres domaines, par exemple, les travailleurs hautement spécialisés. Cet article démontre comment la compréhension de la migration du travail sportif pourrait être améliorée en empruntant aux études réalisées dans le domaine de la migration du travail hautement spécialisé. L�article propose aussi un cadre potentiel pour la recherche future dans le secteur sportif.
