  The opening of the Hellenic northern borders at the beginning of the 1990s has upset the local space planning originating in the settlement of the iron curtain almost fifty years ago. The Bulgarian european integration of 2007 foreshadows the total disappearance of a dividing line that has deeply structured the surrounding territory and the national mindsets since its establishment one century ago. Is it the announced ending of one of those highly disputed Balkan borders issued from endless armed conflicts? Through reconnaissance missions achieved in more than ten years of interval this paper focuses on the Greek-Bulgarian territories’ changes which occurred in the remote Macedonia and Rhodopi.

  L’ouverture des frontières septentrionales de la Grèce au début des années 1990 a bouleversé des équilibres locaux instaurés avec l’édification du rideau de fer près de cinquante ans plus tôt. L’intégration européenne de la Bulgarie en 2007 préfigure la disparition complète d’une ligne de démarcation qui a profondément structuré les territoires limitrophes et les mentalités nationales depuis sa création, il y a près d’un siècle. Est-ce la fin annoncée d’une de ces frontières balkaniques hautement disputées ? À travers des missions de reconnaissance effectuées à plus de dix ans d’intervalle, cet article aborde les mutations des territoires frontaliers gréco-bulgares aux confins de la Macédoine et du Rhodope.
