La vacuna GPL-1: informante del sistema inmunológico

    El sistema inmune busca mantener la homeóstasis del cuerpo, siempre y cuando el organismo esté sano y cumpla con todos los requerimientos nutricionales, ambientales y genéticos que le permitirán vivir en armonía con su entorno. Además, el sistema inmune es capaz de guardar la información que le llega tanto de afuera, como del mismo organismo en su defensa.

    Pero ¿cómo hace el sistema inmune para reconocer que algo anda mal, que hay invasores en el organismo?. Necesitamos que las células del sistema inmune estén alerta en todo momento, principalmente cuando ocurre un daño o una falla en una o varias células del organismo y éste no es capaz de repararlas. De ahí es de donde parte el estudio que se está realizando en el Laboratorio de Experimentación Biológica de la UMB , al hacer una vacuna experimental de componente biológico con partículas o moléculas químicas que sean capaces de alertar y/o activar el sistema inmune que se encuentra en «coma» ya sea por un daño en el mismo o porque hay una inmunosupresión que lo obliga a no responder ante efectos letales en las células, como es el cáncer.

    La vacuna experimental GPL-1, es un compuesto biológico (suero humano) y químico (Aminoácidos), que pretende que se aumente la Respuesta Inmune contra lo extraño (antígenos) y que pueda reconocer a sus propias células, trabajando como un informante del sistema inmune, llevando así a las células a la apoptosis cuando el organismo no las reconoce como propias o cuando invadan las células sanas del cuerpo (metástasis).

    The immune system aims to keep the body's metabolic equilibrium (homeostasis) as long as the organism is healthy and fulfils all the nutritional, environmental, and genetic requirements which permit it to live in harmony with its atmosphere. Moreover, the immune system is able to record all the information that comes from the outside world and its own, to be defended.

    But how does the immune system do to identify when something is wrong or there are invaders inside the organism?. We need the immune system cells alert in every moment, mainly when a damage or a failure takes place in one or more organism cells and this can not mend them. From here is where the study we are developing in the "Laboratorio de Experimentación Biológica de la Universidad Manuela Beltrán" is started. To make an experimental vaccine of biological component with chemical particles or molecules which are able to alert and/or activate the immune system that is in "coma" because of a damage iinside it or because there is an immunosuppression that oblige this not to respond before letal effects in the cells, like cancer.

    The experimental vaccine GPL-1 is a biological (human serum) and chemical (amino acids) compound which pretends to increase the Immune Response against the strange (antigens) and that can identify its own cells, working as an informant of the immune system, carrying the cells to their apoptosis when the organism does not recognize them as its own, or when the healthy cells are invaded.
