En este artículo se reflexiona sobre la función del habla -de los niños y las niñas, pero también de los enseñantes- en las aulas de educación infantil. Se asume que aprender a hablar es aprender a usar el lenguaje para funciones distintas: relatar, discutir, argumentar, convencer, etc. y que estas funciones están estrechamente vinculadas a las actividades de aprendizaje que se proponen. Ello requiere una organización del aula flexible, dinámica, menos centrada en el papel y el lápiz; un aula donde se pueda observar, experimentar, hacer teatro o preparar excursiones, y donde el intercambio verbal sea un instrumento de aprendizaje y de reflexión, y el docente, la persona que guía y estimula el aprendizaje, favoreciendo el intercambio verbal entre todos.

This article reflects upon the function of talking in infant education, focussing on verbal interaction between children and their teachers. Learning to talk means learning to use language for different purposes: to narrate, to argue, to justify, etc., which are closely bound to the learning activities children and adults engage in.
This means that the organisation of what occurs in class should be dynamic and flexible and not primarily focussed on pen-and-paper activities. The classroom should offer children the opportunity to observe and experiment, to prepare theatre plays or to organise excursions. The oral language in the classroom should be a tool to learn and to reflect, and the teacher should enhance learning by favouring verbal exchanges.
