La permanencia de los italianos en el comercio de Levante plantea la complejidad de las actitudes de los comerciantes de Alicante y Cartagena en la Guerra de Sucesión españo- la, y muestra la mayor importancia de los italianos en ambas ciudades sobre la de franceses e ingleses, aunque los primeros tuvieron mejores relaciones, hasta compañías, con los últimos.
Tanto en Alicante como en Cartagena, sus comerciantes italianos, muy interrelacionados, se dividieron entre uno y otro bando, a pesar de haber sufrido grandes perjuicios de la última guerra con Francia del reinado de Carlos II.

The permanency of the Italians in the commerce of Levant, shows the complexity of the positions of the merchants of Alicante and Cartagena in the Succession’s War of Spain, and explains the more importance of the Italians in both cities than that of Frenchs and English- men, though the firsts have better relations with the Englishmen, even societies. As in Ali- cante as in Cartagena, their merchants Italians, with many relations, have differed between one and other faction, not yet have suffered bigs damages of the last war of the Carlos II’s reign with France.
