  • Descartes' project is to find a firm foundation for truth, and to do so calls upon metaphor and fiction. His metaphors — architectural foundations and drowning — both empty thought of all that has no foundation, and peer into the void. Thought finds itself in the founding fable of the ego, at the limit of fiction.
