• Manuscripts show Caillois's early preoccupation with experiences traditional rationality finds difficult to even see, and with developing a rigorous system to understand such experiences. Lyrical thinking is both a reality and such a system in Caillois, and is dependent both on Leibnitz for its articulation, and on German romantic philosophy for its inspiration.
