Resumen de Un Tetralophodon longirostris (Kaup, 1832) (Proboscidea, Mammalia) en el Mioceno medio de Villavieja del Cerro (sector central de la cuenca del Duero, Valladolid)

El mastodonte recuperado de Villavieja del Cerro (Valladolid) determinado por Jiménez Fuentes et al. (1993) como ?Gomphotherium angustidens (Cuvier) es identificado como Tetralophodon longirostris (Kaup). Se establecen conclusiones sobre la edad y tamaño de este proboscideo y se datan los sedimentos en que fue encontrado como Aragoniense superior, unidad MNS de Mein (1975, 1990). Se conserva la región facial del cráneo, con un incisivo y distintos elementos postcraneales de un individuo de edad avanzada (no inferior a 40-50 años). El hallazgo es de gran interés ya que T. longirostris es un taxón poco abundante, y en consecuencia mal conocido en Europa occidental.

The mastodont from Villavieja del Cerro (Valladolid) was adscribed by Jiménez Fuentes et al. (1993) as ?Gomphotherium angustidens (Cuvier), however it is a Tetralophodon longirostris (Kaup). New data about this proboscidea age and size are provided. The host-sediments are dated as Late Aragonian, biozone NMS of Mein (1975, 1990). The facial region of the skull with one incisive and different post-craneal elements belonging to an adult specimen (not less 40-50 years old) are conservated. The remains are very interesting because T. longirostris is a taxa with a little abundance, therefore preserved known western poorly known in Western Europe.
