Resumen de "Nuevas Ciudades" en la Región Metropolitana de Buenos Aires: Una aproximación desde el imaginario fundacional

María Cecilia Arizaga, Daniela Szajnberg

  • "New gated cities" is the category referred to a kind of suburban residential space inside gated polygons which contain groups of gated communities with private infrastructure, following the principles of homogeneous and self-segregated space, destined to middle-high social groups which would have adopted new social practices and ways of use and appropriation of space. This phenomenon shows a displacement of the territorial concept of "pioneer" and "city settling" towards a new demarcation fixed by marketing strategies concordant with the new productive, technological and economic world paradigm. This article thinks about the conceptual image of the settling of three of these suburban gated cities in the Metropolitan Region of Buenos Aires, inquiring into the meaning of the involved actors¿ speech, their urban morphology and architectural language, and their patterns of urbanization, use and appropriation of suburban space.
