Resumen de O sonho frustrado e o sonho realizado: as duas faces da migração para os EUA
The return is a feature of the project of emigrating ; however some emigrants can resume their activities while others are not able to do the same. This paper aims to understand the reasons which define the success and the failure concerning the realization of the project of return of emigrants from the micro-region of Governador Valadares in the USA. The data were collected through formal and informal interviews from 2004 to 2006 in Governador Valadares micro-region, and in the USA. The longer emigrants stay abroad the more difficult it is for their readaptation and, consequently, for the achievement of success in the return. Investments accomplished without observing the market demands and the lack of knowledge in managing the enterprises are the main reasons for failure.
