    Este trabajo ensaya una mirada sobre los procesos de dos barrios montevideanos: el Cerro y Punta Carretas. Desde el punto de vista convencional imperante, uno y otro representan tendencias opuestas, de degradación y de �gentrificación�, respectivamente. Mas si se rechaza el criterio de valor que esta óptica sobreentiende y se apela a otros más inmanentes de la condición humana, ambos siguen el mismo curso destructivo. El Cerro y Punta Carretas pueden reconocerse como dos caras de una misma moneda, muestras paradigmáticas del advenimiento de un Nuevo Orden, a la vez único y dual, en la capital uruguaya y en el país y el mundo.

    This work attempts to look into the processes of two Montevidean neighbourhoods: El Cerro and Punta Carretas. From the conventional prevailing view, one and the other represent opposite tendencies of degradation and gentrification respectively. However, if the judgment of value that this criterion in particular implies is replaced by other ones more inherent to the human condition, we may conclude that both of them take the same destructive way. El Cerro and Punta Carretas can be recognized as the two faces of the same coin, that is, paradigmatic samples of the advent of a New Order, unique and dual at the same time, in the Uruguayan capital, in the country and in the world.
