La evolución de las producciones y la utilización de trigo, maíz y arroz a nivel mundial, durante los últimos años, son los responsables de un desajuste entre la oferta y la demanda que difícilmente permite garantizar el abastecimiento de los mercados (actuales y futuros). El problema se suma a una situación de muy bajos niveles de existencias en los principales países productores. Las consecuencias inmediatas son fuerte volatilidad en los precios, inflación en los países desarrollados y hambre en los países pobres. Con la tecnología adecuada para cada escenario y utilizando los factores productivos en condiciones que presenten su máxima eficiencia, es posible producir alimentos para todos, en forma sostenible.

The global offer and demand in wheat, maize and rice at a global level, have been umbalanced. This was originated by the levels of production and utilization during the last years and put at risk the present and future grain supplies. The situation is worsened by the low stock levels in the main producing countries. The high volatility of prices, the inflation in the developed countries and the hunger in the poor countries would be some of the consequences. It will be possible to obtain foodstuffs for all the population in sustainable conditions by the use of the proper technology in every scenery and the efficient use of the inputs.
