In the Cicero Pro Cluentio, Sassia, the cruel mother of defendant, falls in love with her son-in-law, so she anticipates some characteristics of the elegiac women. In Sassia portrait, Cicero reworks topoi and images of Greek erotic poetry: the same topoi and images will canonize by the Latin erotic poetry of Catullus and the Elegiacs.
