  • Resumen
    • The literature about vitamin D level and risk of breast cancer (BC) supports currently a role in cancer prevention. Recently, dairy calcium and total vitamin D intake have shown inverse associations with premenopausal BC risk, although authors had recognized before that their independent associations with BC were difficult to distinguish. Moreover, dietary vitamin D is frequently negligible: sunlight exposure and fortified foods seem to be its major sources. Besides, the available literature enables to link vitamin D tightly with some of light of the analyzed bibliography, it is reasonable to think that vitamin D is located in a crossroad of several metabolic AND hormonal pathways which are likely important for the occurrence and/or development of BC. Considering that human breast cells have vitamin D receptors, there is a biologically plausible basis for the hypothesis that vitamin D contributes to protect against BC.
