En los últimos tiempos se ha producido una renovación del interés mediático e historiográfico respecto al concepto islámico de yihad. Dicha renovación ha generado una cierta vulgarización del mismo, acompañada, en algunos casos, de fuertes distorsiones. En este artículo se analizan las principales bases doctrinales y jurídicas del yihad en las fuentes árabes clásicas, partiendo, fundamentalmente, de las estipulaciones coránicas y de las normas de la tradición profética, así como de las opiniones formuladas por algunos de los ulemas más prestigiosos de los siglos VIII al XIII.

In recent years there has been, both in the media and historiography, a renewed interest in the Islamic notion of jihad. This has caused a certain vulgarization of the concept which has sometimes led to significant distortions. This paper analyzes the legal and doctrinal essence of jihad in classical Arabic sources taking as a starting point the stipulations in the Qur�an and the norms in the prophetic tradition. It also takes into account the opinions launched by the most distinguished Islamic jurists from the 8th to the 13th centuries.
