Resumen de Réorganisation spatiale à Vientiane: entre ouverture économique et importation de modèles de développement urbain

  The proclamation of Lao PDR and the establishment of the incoming regime cut off the country’s relations with almost all the other South-East Asian countries. for over ten years. From 1986 onwards the gradual opening of the regime led to increased economic trade, essentially with Thailand judging by the levels of direct foreign investment. At the same time, the Asia Development Bank, through the Greater Mekong Subregion Programme started to promote a transnational and regional integration plan, and, as a consequence, to link the Lao PDR and Vientiane with other territories. The opening up of the economy and the insertion of Lao PDR within regional networks, but also the impact of application of Western urban configuration models, produced extensive changes in the capital’s functional and spatial structure, long characterised by a pattern of villages. The Thai northeast development corridor extended onto Lao territory, from theMekong Bridge to the capital. This spatial development indicates a clear integration of Vientiane within Bangkok’s economic orbit.

  Alors que l’instauration de la RDP Lao avait coupé Vientiane de ses relations avec la plupart des pays du Sud-Est asiatique, l’assouplissement progressif du régime, à partir de 1986, permit une reprise des échanges économiques et un retour des investissements directs étrangers, essentiellement au profit de la Thaïlande. Dans le même temps, la Banque Asiatique de Développement, à travers le programme de la « Région du Grand Mékong », inscrivait la RDP Lao et Vientiane dans le projet d’intégration transnationale. L’ouverture économique, l’insertion dans les réseaux régionaux, mais aussi l’impact de l’application de modèles occidentaux d’organisation des espaces urbains, ont profondément modifié la structuration fonctionnelle et spatiale de la capitale laotienne — longtemps nébuleuse de villages. L’émergence d’un corridor industriel entre la capitale et le pont international sur le Mékong, en prolongation du corridor de développement du Nord-Est thaïlandais, souligne l’inscription de Vientiane dans l’orbite économique de Bangkok.
