We first propose to interpret the macroscopic stress state in a representative elementary volume as its limit load for the current configuration of the microstructure. The macroscopic compaction law can then be determined from the solution of a set of problems of limit analysis on the successive configurations of the microstructure. The periodic case is first considered. We then focus on disordered porous media, for which the limit load, for a given configuration, can be estimated by non-linear homogenization techniques.
