Barcelona i la venjança dels ofesos

    We propose a reinterpretation of the eulogy of Barcelona (QII, 72), taking into consideration the text as a whole and its appearance in the strategic context of the dénouement of the novel. In order to highlight the fundamental intention of Miguel de Cervantes in this passage, which is to issue a brief challenge to the false sequel to the first part by Fernández de Avellaneda, we follow Don Quixote and Sancho on their travels from La Mancha to Barcelona and back. There is a striking spatiotemporal blackhole in the Aragonese portion of Don Quixote�s journey. We contrast the adventures of the two characters in Barcelona with those of the bogus Don Quixote and Sancho in Saragossa. It is obvious that Don Quixote must be aware from QII, 59 who the real author of QI is, and we believe that, through a tacit agreement between himself and the author, Don Quixote makes it his job to take vengeance on Avellaneda and his false characters. The opportunity arises in Barcelona, the city eulogized by the knight errant, among other reasons, for being the avenger rather than the vindictive party in the revenge of the offended.

    Proposem una relectura de l�elogi de Barcelona (QII, 72) que té en compte la integritat del text i la seva aparició en el context estratègic de l�acabament de la novel·la. Per tal de fer ressaltar la intenció fonamental de Miguel de Cervantes en aquest passatge, que és la de desmentir en forma resumida el fals llibre de Fernández de Avellaneda, seguim el camí de don Quijote i Sancho des de la Manxa a Barcelona i tornada. Crida l�atenció el forat negre espaciotemporal de l�itinerari aragonès de don Quijote. Contrastem les aventures barcelonines dels dos personatges amb les dels falsos don Quijote i Sancho a Saragossa. Constatem que don Quijote ha de saber des de QII, 59 qui és el veritable autor de QI, i pensem que per un pacte tàcit entre el personatge i Cervantes, don Quijote s�encarrega d�anar a cercar la venjança contra Avellaneda i contra els seus falsos personatges. Aquesta oportunitat la troba a Barcelona, la ciutat elogiada pel cavaller, entre altres raons, per haver estat la venganza de los ofendidos, la Barcelona venjadora i no pas venjativa.
