El género cuento a lo largo de la historia.

    Mediante la siguiente afirmación de Baquero Goyanes, se obtiene una acertada visión global de lo que ha sido la historia del género cuento: «Confundido inicialmente con el mito, con las viejas creencias y las seculares tradiciones, el cuento alcanza configuraciones literarias en el siglo XIX y se convierte así en el más paradójico y extraño de los géneros: aquel que tal vez fuera el más antiguo del mundo y, a la vez, el que más tardó en adquirir forma literaria». La certeza de esta afirmación queda patente tras analizar la evolución del género desde sus orígenes en las literaturas del Cercano Oriente, Egipto, Israel y, tras estas, en las de Grecia, Roma, India y China, hasta su transfiguración durante el Romanticismo y su posterior configuración definitiva en el Realismo, con Leopoldo Alas «Clarín», donde se fija el modelo literario que seguirán autores actuales como Miguel Delibes, Ignaro Aldecoa o Marina Mayoral. En el estudio de esta evolución son interesantes las aportaciones tanto del orientalista Teodoro Benfey, como las de su detractor Andrew Lang, sin olvidar el importante trabajo de recuperación y conservación que realizaron los hermanos Grimm, en Alemania; Wóycicki , en Polonia; Gran Steward, en Escocia; Crofton Croke, en Irlanda; y Cecilia Böhl de Faber, en España.

    By the following statement of Baquero Goyanes, you get an accurate overview of what has been the history of the genre story: «the myth initially confused with the old beliefs and secular traditions, the story reaches literary configurations in the nineteenth and thus becomes the most paradoxical and strange of the genera: one that might be the world's oldest and, at the time, that later in acquiring literary form». The certainty of this assertion is evident after analyzing the evolution of the genre from its origins in the literatures of the Near East, Egypt, Israel and, following this, in those of Greece, Rome, India and China, to its transfiguration during the Romantic and final configuration after Realism, with Leopoldo Alas «Clarín», which sets the literary model seguirun contemporary writers such as Miguel Delibes, Ignacio Aldecoa and Marina Mayoral. In the study of this evolution are interesting contributions from both the Orientalist Theodor Benfey, like his critic Andrew Lang, not to mention the important restoration and conservation work of the brothers who made Grimm, in Germany; Wóycicki, in Poland, Grand Steward, in Scotland, Crofton Croke, in Ireland, and Cecilia Böhl de Faber, in Spain.
