At least nine of Barthes' articles originate in Paris-Match photos, while he probably never saw The Family of Man exhibition he explicitly comments. Photography is ambivalent: at times it allows sociological reality to emerge where literature alone would be blind, and sometimes, even unseen, it mythifies reality.
