Proper names in 17th century fiction create différent "interpretative communities" inasmuch as they are susceptible of varied levels of readings, from the pedantic to the naïve, a choice either left to the reade, aswith La Fontaine's Le Songe de Vaux, or ferociously directed, in some allegorical novels.
