  • Discourse analysis is limited in its scope for socio-criticism unless brought to account for the totality of a singular discursive system - including narrative. Applied to "Little Roque" this shows, beyond explicit social discourse, the neurotic fear of nature embedded in the cultured main character's breakdown - and in Maupassant.
