Resumen de Alternativas e inferencias escalares: las construcciones del tipo de como mucho

El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar una clase de construcciones que han recibido muy poca atención en la bibliografía: como mucho, como poco, como máximo, por lo menos, etc. Abordaremos el estudio de dos aspectos de estas expresiones: sus propiedades semánticas y su incompatibilidad con los contextos negativos. Por una parte, propondremos que la función de las construcciones del tipo de como mucho es cancelar las implicaturas conversacionales asociadas al modelo escalar del que forma parte el constituyente sobre el que inciden. Por otra parte, mostraremos que esas expresiones se comportan como términos de polaridad positiva, puesto que son... (Leer más) rechazadas en los entornos negativos y, a partir del análisis semántico propuesto para ellas, explicaremos su imposibilidad de concurrir con una negación.

The goal of this paper is to analyze a type of constructions which have not received much attention in the literature: como mucho (�at most�), como poco (�al least�), como máximo (�at most�), por lo menos (�al least�), etc. I will study two aspects of these expressions: their semantic properties and their incompatibility with negative contexts. On the one hand, I will propose that constructions such as como mucho cancel the conversational implicatures associated to the scalar model in question. On the other hand, I will show that these expressions behave as positive polarity items, so that they cannot occur in negative environments and, having in mind the semantic analysis proposed, I will explain their impossibility of being in negative sentences.
