Resumen de The impact of knowledge management principles in the preconstruction phase of construction projects cases from Kosovo

Ilir Rodiqi

  • Construction works need extensive preparation. It starts with bidding phase and continues with performance programme, methodology of works, quality assurance plan, procurement of materials, site preparation and works introduction. All these activities require broad knowledge about the general construction principles as well as specific project requirements.

Above all, this problem is critical in the developing countries like Kosovo, where basic construction management principles are not applied as required. In circumstances where international agencies like EU, WB, and other donors are implementing construction projects, the gap has been created between the knowledge embedded in project requirements and the knowledge of local stakeholders. This study investigates the requirements for knowledge as well as application of knowledge management principles in the preconstruction phase. It concludes that lack of basic knowledge management principles in the pre-construction phase is causing considerable malfunctioning and delays in building and civil engineering works.
