Resumen de A investigação cientifica e o turismo

The purpose of this article is to contribute to a discussion regarding an agenda of scientific research of Portuguese tourism. Given that without scientific knowledge there is no economic or social progress, this article attempts to explain the foundations of a scientific study in tourism and defends the methods as well as the need for a multidisciplinary approach in reaching the best solutions to the tourism problems. On analysing the existing scientific studies and the importance of tourism in the Portuguese economy, this article concludes that there is a need for Portugal to have a national tourism agenda. In preparing this agenda the needs must be identified through the cooperation and collaboration between of the public sector, industry and the scientific community.

O presente artigo tem por objectivo contribuir para uma reflexão em torno de uma agenda de investigação científica para o turismo português. Ao admitir que sem ciência não há progresso económico e social, o artigo procura esclarecer os fundamentos de uma pratica científica no turismo, defendendo quer uma aplicação dos elementos que fazem parte do método científico, quer uma visão multidisciplinar para se encontrarem as melhores soluções para os problemas do turismo. Ao efectuar uma abordagem das iniciativas internacionais da investigação cientifica e da sua divulgação, o texto conclui que o conhecimento já acumulado neste domínio e a importância que o turismo possui na estrutura produtiva em Portugal, justificam a preparação de uma agenda nacional através da identificação das necessidades de investigação baseada num dialogo entre as autoridades, as empresas e a comunidade cientifica.
