Resumen de Higher Music Education Institutions: A Neglected Arena for Research?

Harald Jorgensen

  • The purpose of this study is to argue that research into higher music education institutions must be acknowledged as an important and separate arena of research. The study is based on an overview of 847 research publications from 26 countries over the last 60 years. The issues addressed are: (a) the number and range of topics covered by the research, (b) the output of research over the last 60 years, (c) the international aspect of the research output, and (d) the range of research methods used. The conclusion is that research into higher music education has come of age and deserves to be regarded as an important research contribution, both from the research community and the students, teachers, and leaders in higher music education institutions.
