Este artículo analiza la población extranjera en la Comunidad de Madrid, intentando explicar el papel del territorio, y los cambios recientes que han incrementado la discontinuidad, dispersión y fragmentación. El área urbana madrileña ha potenciado las ventajas de la globalización económica y del postmodernismo incrementando su atractivo. La migración ha tenido un impacto positivo y su incremento ha sido acompañado por la diversidad de origen; viajando por Madrid, entre rostros y voces nuevas encontramos una creciente metrópoli multiétnica.

The paper analyzes the foreign population in Madrid, trying to explain the role played by territory and the recent changes that have increased the processes of dispersion, discontinuity and fragmentation The Madrid urban area has catched the advantages of the economic globalisation and the postmodernism, resulting in the increase of its attractiveness. Immigration has also had a positive impact, its growth being accompanied by an increase in the diversity of origin, travelling along Madrid between new faces and words, we meet thus an increasing multi-ethnic metropolis.
