Resumen de Liturgierecht und Liturgiepastoral: Synodales Partikularrecht als Wegbereiter der Liturgiereform des Zweiten Vatikanums

Hanns Peter Neuheuser

  • The second Vatican Council issued the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy "Sacrosanctum concilium" in the year 1963 after a quite short debate, nevertheless leading to a paradigm shift in a lot of respects of liturgical matters, the so called council-evocated reform of liturgy. This could be realized by processing the impulsions given by the academic as well as pastoral liturgists in the particular churches and the parishes.Especially the archbishopric of Cologne/Germany had passed canonical decisions during the synods of the Diocese in the years 1922,1937, and - in an outstanding and innovative manner - 1954 which were able to prepare the reform of liturgy presented at least by the Vatican Council. Our contribution recapitulates this period of church history and canon law and stresses the importance of a pastoral-proven particular law as an argument in the discussions with conservative circles at the Roman Curia. The formula of a symbiosis of liturgical law and pastoral intentions in liturgical matters has worked as an effective instrument to further the development of liturgy.
