Resumen de Supuestos, explicaciones y sistemas de creencias: ciencia, religión y psicología

Ante el reto que representa aproximarnos al ser humano de manera holística y compleja, es necesario cuestionar la exclusión de la dimensión espiritual en nuestro quehacer clínico y académico. Este trabajo pretende examinar algunos de los supuestos que subyacen la resistencia a legitimar lo espiritual como parte del quehacer psicológico, comenzando por la dicotomía ciencia!religión. La ciencia, la religión y la psicología son sistemas de creencias que intentan dar explicación a la experiencia humana, y que contienen normas y supuestos que regulan su actividad y las formas en que nos relacionamos y nos acercamos al conocimiento. Para articular modelos holísticos y explicaciones complejas en la psicología es necesario mantener una posición de apertura hacia el pluralismo epistemológico y metodológico.

It is imperative to include the spiritual dimension in our clinical and scholarly endeavors in order to meet the challenge of looking at the complexity of the human experience from a holistic perspective. The purpose of this article is to advocate for the inclusion of the spiritual dimension within psychology�s endeavors. The author questions various assumptions that have marginalized spirituality from our discipline. Science, religion, and psychology are systems of beliefs that explain aspects of human experience and that have assumptions that regulate its activities and the ways that we relate to others and to knowledge. In order to construct holistic models and complex explanations in psychology it is necessary to be open to epistemological and methodological pluralism.
