Objectives: To elaborate an orientation plan for the client with infection at operatory injury, so as to achieve the aid, enabling this subject to hospital discharge. Method: Qualitative, Descriptive-exploratory research ,accomplished at a University Hospital in Rio do Janeiro, where data sample took place from April to June, 2008, with eight clients who had presented infection at surgical site, by means of structured interview which has investigated deficits and clients competences for self- care ,that would interfere in the execution of the aid. Results: They have demonstrated the importance of a care planning which would cover the important orientation at intellectual, physical, emotional and economic-social skills levels of these subjects. Conclusion: The care planning can help these clients with self-care actions, however, it must be constantly assessed and adapted according to the needs of each individual
