Impresiones de viaje de seis escritoras inglesas que visitaron Andalucía antes y después de la Revolución de 1868.Viajan en tren sobre todo, recurren a sus cónsules cuando pueden y chapurrean el español. Se alojan en hoteles confortables pero caros si se tiene en cuenta la comida que ofrecen. Son testigos de los cambios que vive la sociedad andaluza en aquellos años. Se interesan tanto por las catedrales, pinacotecas y monumentos árabes como por la nueva libertad de culto, la organización hospitalaria y los sentimientos republicanos de una parte de la población. Ya no son los bandidos quienes amenazan la seguridad de los caminos, sino las partidas carlistas.

The present article deals with the impressions that six English lady travellers got of Andalusia before and after the Revolution of 1868. They travelled mainly by train, turned to the British consuls for help and spoke some Spanish. They stayed in comfortable and expensive hotels with quality food. They witnessed the changes that the Andalusian society went through in those years. They were interested in cathedrals, museums and Arabic monuments the same as in the new freedom of worship, hospital facilities and republican sentiments on a part of the population. They checked that highway men no longer threatened the roads but Carlist gangs.
