    Conocer la evolución del proceso de enseñanza de la geografía indujo al planteamiento y desarrollo de esta investigación, donde se estableció como objetivos: (a) Identificar las pautas curriculares que evidencian la evolución de los estudios de geografía en la UPEL-IPB desde 1959 hasta el año 2007 y (b) ‘Contextualizar el proceso, al considerar las condiciones del país y de la ciudad, las específicas de la institución y las referidas a la epistemología de la geografía. La investigación es de tipo documental descriptiva, no experimental, longitudinal. Los datos procesados se presentan en cuadros con interpretación, para ello se combinó la descripción estadística y el análisis lógico. Los resultados logrados se concretan en planes de estudio, unidades de crédito, escalas de evaluación en la carrera, duración de los estudios de pregrado y un contexto que comprende: evolución interna de la institución, recursos humanos, programas, matrícula, egresados, influencia de la investigación y de los estudios de maestría, condiciones del país y la ciudad. Es un aporte cuando Venezuela anuncia cambios en otros niveles y modalidades escolares.

    Knowing the evolution the process of education of geography induced to the exposition and development of this research, where it settled down like objectives: (a) To identify the curricular guides that demonstrates the evolution of the studies of geography in the UPEL-IPB from 1959 to the year 2007 and (b) to contextualize the process, when considering the conditions of the country and the city, specifically of the institution and the referred ones to the epistemology of geography. This research is documentary, descriptive, no experimental, longitudinal type. The data process is showed in pictures with interpretation, for it was combined the statistical description and the logic analysis. The obtained results take shape in unit, curricula of credit, scale of evaluation in the careers, duration of the higher education studies and a context that includes: internal evolution of the institution, human resources, programs, registration, graduates, influences of the investigation and the studies of masters, conditions of the country and the city. This is a contribution when Venezuela announces scholastic changes in other levels and modalities
