The present article broaches the formation of teachers and the quest in the construction of the identity of such professionals through characteristics and performance conditions of the teaching attributions, such as the bureaucratization of schools, intensification of work, time control, presence of women in the early grades of the teaching studies and professional stress. This article has been accomplished through the interlocution with public school teachers of the city of Apucarana - PR, who, in 2009, participated of the research project TEACHING OF HISTORY ON THE FIRST GRADES OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: what they teach and how they teach, developed in the Pedagogy course of the college of Apucarana (FAP).

O artigo aborda a formação de professores e a busca da construção da identidade desses profissionais mediante características e condições do desempenho da função docente como a burocratização nas escolas, a intensificação do trabalho, o controle do tempo, a presença da mulher nas séries iniciais do magistério e o estresse profissional. Foi produzido a partir da interlocução com professores da rede pública municipal de Apucarana � PR que participaram, em 2009, do projeto de pesquisa O ENSINO DE HISTÓRIA NAS SÉRIES INICIAIS DO ENSINO FUNDAMENTAL: o que ensinam e como ensinam, desenvolvido no curso de Pedagogia da Faculdade de Apucarana � FAP.
