The article represents a qualitative study elaborated through the context of the Universidad de Carabobo, Venezuela. The primary theoretical reference is the Mathematical Cognition Onto-Semiotic Approach (OSA), which considers that the global fitness of a process of study can be obtained through a set of criteria, called Fitness Criteria. The purpose is centered into the appraisal of the teachers perspectives about the possibility of a change of the topic functions within the teaching-learning process, oriented towards contextualized mathematics. The results show to the college community how can be approached through the qualitative paradigm and the Onto-Semiotic Approach- a problem within the universitary environment. Besides, becomes evident the powerful strength of the fitness criteria as instruments of evaluation in the search for a consensus
