El artículo explora el potencial de la gestión del conocimiento para su aplicación en educación superior apoyada en la herramientas colaborativas; es una investigación documental orientada a la revisión del estado de la gestión del conocimiento en la actualidad, la diferenciación de tipos de conocimiento que se pueden gestionar, elementos a considerar para la gestión dentro de una institución de educación superior, lo que son herramientas colaborativas y su aplicabilidad en estas instituciones.
A manera de conclusión se proyectan las posibilidades de gestionar el conocimiento en instituciones de educación superior haciendo uso de algunas herramientas colaborativas.

The article, explore the potential of Knowledge Management for it�s application in the field of Higher Education, supported by the collaborative tools, then to make a check list of the state of the current management knowledge, the differentiation of the types of knowledge that can be managed, the elements that are to be considered for the management of higher education, which are the collaborative tools, which are the ones that have the highest possibility of being applied in these institutions and finally to project the possibilities of managing knowledge in institutions of Higher education using some collaborative tools.
