Resumen de Portugal e Castela na reconquista cristã e na partilha do mundo: legitimidades, debates, cedências (1249-1494)

  This paper wants to discuss some questions that involve political, military, economical and mental power, in some specific geographies. The protagonists are Castile and Portugal, who disputed vast territories for centuries. In 1249, the Portuguese king, d. Afonso, and his men (re)conquered Algarve in the name of Portugal, despite the claims of Fernando III, the Saint. Very few questions were made about the justice of that war against the unfaithful;

  the main problem was to define from the Christian side, León-Castile and Portugal, who should be recognized as the legitimate representative of the ancestors that suffered the muslim invasion. In 1494, when the Tordesilhas Treaty was signed, the scenarium was the seas � known and unknown � but the actors ant their goals were pretty alike:

  the conquest, influence and legitimate possession of territories.

  Este trabalho é uma reflexão sobre questões de poder político, militar, económico e mental sobre determinadas áreas. Os protagonistas trazidos são Castela e Portugal porque protagonizam durante muitos séculos e em vários cenários geográficos situações continuadas de competitividade territorial. Em1249, D.

  Afonso III de Portugal e os seus homens (re)conquistam o Algarve e integram-no em Portugal, mau grado as reivindicações de Fernando III, o Santo. Raras interrogações se colocaram sobre a licitude da guerra contra o infiel; o problema residia na definição dos parâmetros da anterioridade, entre os dois únicos blocos em cena: Leão e Castela, de um lado, e Portugal do outro. Em 1494 , ano da assinatura do Tratado de Tordesilhas, o cenário são os mares conhecidos e por conhecer, mas os actores continuam a ser os mesmos para objectivos semelhantes:

  conquista e posse legítima de territórios e de áreas de influência.
