Simón Rodríguez representa el pensamiento ilustrado latinoamericano. La coherencia interna de sus planteamientos como maestro colonial y como maestro republicano lo ubica dentro de los grandes pedagogos del siglo XIX. Consideró la educación social como el mecanismo a través del cual las Repúblicas podrían llegar a consolidarse y a la sociabilidad como el fin social de la escuela, en la medida en que el primer deber de un republicano era saber sus obligaciones sociales. Planteó la primera escuela como el fundamento del saber y el medio a través del cual los pueblos lograrían la civilización. Propuso la inclusión social a través de la �escuela para todos�, la formación para el trabajo y la adquisición de nuevos hábitos que posibilitaran las relaciones sociales propias de un sistema republicano.

Simón Rodríguez represents the Latin American enlightenment thought. The internal coherence of his approaches as a colonial teacher and as a Republican teacher places him within the greatest pedagogues of the nineteenth century. He considered social education as the mechanism through which the Republics would be able to consolidate themselves and achieve sociability through the school�s social order, to the extent that the first duty of a Republican was to know his social obligations. He formed the first school as the foundation of social knowledge and the way by which the people would achieve civilization. He proposed social inclusion through the idea of �school for all�, the job training and the acquisition of new habits which will facilitate a Republic system�s own social relations.
