  Artículo de reflexión sobre la educación abierta y a distancia como un proceso novedoso en la práctica de la docencia que incluye elementos nuevos que deben ser tratados cuidadosamente, existe una desigualdad entre los países de Latinoamérica en cuanto al acceso a las tecnologías d la información y las comunicaciones (TIC), actualmente hay esfuerzos tendientes a cerrar esta brecha digital tanto por parte de instituciones públicas como privadas. El e-learning es la nueva forma de enseñanza-aprendizaje que ofrece tanto al docente como al estudiante un abanico de posibilidades de crecimiento personal y social, la posición del docente es de una gran responsabilidad ya que con sus propuestas novedosas se convierte en el motor para que el estudiante logre la madurez que lo llevará a incursionar exitosamente en la vida laboral a futuro.

  This paper is a reflection about of the open and distant education as a new process in the teaching practice, there are new elements which must be treated carefully, there is an inequality between the Latin America countries as regards access to information-communication technologies (ICT), and there are currently efforts to close this digital gap by public and private institutions. E-learning is the new way of teaching and learning which offers both to the teacher and the student a range of opportunities for personal and social growth, the position of the teacher is that of great responsibility and with its innovative proposals becomes the engine so that the student achieves maturity which leads him to a successfully break into the working life of the future.
