This qualitative research (case study) conducted in 2009 had as its purpose to understand the conceptions of respect found in couples and authorities, involved in accusations of domestic violence in Neiva - Huila.
A particular case of domestic violence as reported by the wife was taken into account. Data collection techniques such as individual interviews, observation during settlement conferences and document review were used.
Conceptions of respect in the couple relationship have been expressed from viewpoints of dialectical tension such as love/lack of love, respect/disrespect, hurting/not hurting someone.
Justice authorities are recognized by the couple as legal entities to which they can request protection and solution to the domestic violence conflicts. They sometimes feel that their rights are not recognized, especially when their proceedings are hampered and they are not listened when settling their compromises.
Respect in the justice proceedings is seen from justice authorities as confidentiality and impartiality given in the judicial attention.
