    Jean-Pierre Richard's critical work disperses into a nomenclature, a gentle shower of definitions, the single-minded dynamism of the story-line, thus pushing, at the price of displacing the emphasis from the whole towards the detail, the simple adventure of existing, towards the heights of a grand narrative. Maurice de Guérin's Centaur could be emblematic of this art of commentary.
