Arquitectura en la ciudad de Valencia desde el final de la Guerra Civil hasta los primeros años 50. Una visión general, algunos textos relevantes y los viajes de estudio

    Este trabajo plantea algunas cuestiones necesarias que afectan a la arquitectura realizada en la ciudad de Valencia al finalizar la Guerra Civil, como los viajes de estudios de los que cabe decir tuvieron un peso muy importante en la concepción de un ideal arquitectónico, mostrando además los intereses que en cada momento imperaron. Primero fue Alemania, que fascinó con su excesiva arquitectura, por lo menos hasta el desenlace de la II Guerra Mundial, y el giro evidente que se realiza hacia la arquitectura norteamericana que con posterioridad se dio. Este proceso puede observarse en las arquitecturas hospitalarias que tanto interés suscitaron y de las que también hablaremos, entre algunas de las propuestas tipológicas que analizamos. Otro de los temas relevantes de los aquí tratados será el de la conveniencia o no de hablar de los estilos o lenguajes para el estudio de este periodo y en qué sentido cabe hacerse para, finalmente, mostrar una panorámica general sobre la arquitectura valenciana de posguerra a partir de algunos textos nacionales, y de otros locales, que reflejaron en gran medida las preocupaciones arquitectónicas del momento, fundamentalmente durante los primeros años de la dura autarquía y hasta los inicios de la década de los 50 del siglo XX, donde se observan ya otros rasgos.

    This work focuses on several issues related to the architecture used in Valencia after the Civil War, as well as on the study trips that were carried out at that time. Those travels had a profound influence on the conception of a particular architectural ideal, also showing the main interests leading each stage of the process.

    Germany was firstly considered to be fascinating thanks to its excessive architecture. However, after the end of the Second World War, there was a turning point in the foreign architectural references, and the United States of America became the new model worth imitating. Specifically, these influences can be seen in the design of hospitals, which were highly regarded buildings at that time, among other architectural typologies that are also going to be analysed. The second part of this paper will discuss whether it is convenient or not to make use of the concepts of ‘style’ or ‘language’ when talking about this period. Finally, a general approach of the Valencian architecture in the Post-war Period will be given. To do so, this work provides with several texts (some of them written in Valencia, other texts coming from the rest of the country) that show very clearly the architectural concerns of that time. Such documents especially deal with the first hard autarky years and until the beginning of the 50’s, when new architecture trends were already developing.
