  • Resumen
    • Librarians are starting to discover the advantages of Radio Frequency IDentification technology (RFID) for tracking and surveillance of documents. This paper briefly reviews the components of a typical library system and the most important activities librarians can carry on with them; it also displays the risks of RFID: the health of people who stands close to radio frequency emitter devices, the security of the items, the privacy of the ones enlisted in the data bases the RFID system manages. This paper also focuses on the interoperability issue: ISO/IEC 28560 specifies a unique data model for the use of RFID tags for the needs of all types of libraries, provides the framework to ensure interoperability between libraries in exchange of library items with RFID tags, and the freedom of the library to acquire equiment from different vendors.
