  • The second part of an essay devoted to local periodicals: this article treats the online ones. After some conosiderations on the way information and communication tecnologies affected the local journals, the author focuses his attention on the initiavive of digitization of historical collections, carried out by public libraries. Two cases are in particular analysed: in Italy, "Biblioteca digitale reggiana", created by Reggio Emilia Public Library, that proposes the digitized version of all the newspapers of Reggio Emilia from 1848 to 1900; in France, "Presse lyonnaise du XIXe siecle" by Lyon Public Library, a repository of digitalised periodicals published in the town from 1830 to 1914. Both the initiatives are very important and represent models for other jinstitutions interested in making available their historical collections.
