Resumen de Uso eficiente del agua en la agricultura urbana

La producción de alimentos para la población cubana es una prioridad del estado, aún son insuficientes los resultados económico-productivos alcanzados para satisfacer las necesidades reales de productos agrícolas. La producción urbana ha logrado un desarrollo vertiginoso en Cuba en el último decenio, la producción de hortalizas y vegetales se encuentran dentro de los subprogramas priorizados, sin embargo el agua y la materia orgánica juegan un papel decisivo en este empeño. La investigación se desarrolló en el área experimental de la Facultad de Agronomía de la Universidad de Matanzas, se evaluó la influencia del contenido de materia orgánica y el uso de la cubierta vegetal en la retención y conservación de la humedad en el suelo. Se utilizó un diseño de bloque al azar, estudiándose 6 tratamientos con 5 réplicas. Se evalúan los resultados de dos plantaciones de Lechuga (Lactuca sativa, L), variedad Black Seeded simpson. Se analiza una siembra de Pepino (Cucumis sativus L.), la variedad utilizada poinset. En las dos plantaciones de lechuga evaluada se encontró una respuesta positiva en el contenido y la conservación del agua en el suelo, así como la respuesta productiva del cultivo. La evaluación económica realizada, mostró ganancia con la aplicación de materia orgánica y el uso de la cubierta vegetal. Al evaluar la respuesta del cultivo del pepino se encontró respuesta significativa, cuando se aplicó 24 kg/m2 de materia orgánica y se utiliza cubierta vegetal.
