    El presente trabajo tiene por objetivo dar cuenta de las políticas de vivienda impulsadas por el Frente Popular (1937-1949), primordialmente relativas a la institución a cargo del problema, la Caja de la Habitación Popular, en lo que tradicionalmente se conoce como Norte Chico, específicamente en la los espacios urbanos de Coquimbo y La Serena. Fue dentro de las políticas públicas de vivienda, propias de los años cuarenta e integradas a un proyecto-país más amplio, donde esta institución actuó en aras de otorgar una solución al latente conflicto de la habitación popular, en un intento por dar respuesta a las múltiples voces que alertaban de dicho problema. ¿Cómo se organizó, en consecuencia, la política social por parte del Estado? ¿Cómo se alineó con el discurso frente-populista del "pan, techo y abrigo"? ¿Cómo resolvió finalmente el Frente Popular, las necesidades de habitación de la zona?

    The goal of the present article is to explain the housing problem politics developed by the Popular Front (1937-1949), mainly in relation with the institution in charge of this problem, the Administration of Popular Housing, in what is traditionally known as Norte Chico (Small North), specifically in the urban zones of Coquimbo and La Serena. It was within the housing problem politics of the 40's integrated in a wider country size project, that this institution worked in order to give a solution to the old housing problem. ¿How was organized, in consequences, the State social politics? How was it lined up to the Popular Front discourse speaking of "bread, roof and shelter"? ¿How did, finally, the Popular Front resolve the needs of the housing of this zone?
