Because of the high prevalence of polypharmacy and adverse drug reactions in the nursing home, applying the concept of �less is more� is of great importance in reducing unnecessary or burdensome medications. This article reviews the ethical principles for medication discontinuation, discusses in a case-based format on how to apply an ethical framework to prescribing challenges, and offers practical considerations for medication discontinuation.
