    Where does fiction start and the document end? Roberto Bolaño's 2666 and Sergio Gonzaléz Rodriguez' Huesos en el desierto deal with the same topic: the real murder of three hundred women around the Mexican city of Ciudad Juárez. Both works treat these events by pushing the limits of the genre either is supposed to belong to. Bolaño's work is supposed to be a work of fiction, Rodriguez' is generally considered to be a work of documentary prose. Comparing the two texts, both of which muddy the limits between fiction and non-fiction, testifies to the porosity of generic frontiers in contemporary writing, and puts into question their pertinence.

    Où situer la ligne de partage entre fiction et document ? 2666 de Roberto Bolaño et Huesos en el Desierto de Sergio Gonzaléz Rodriguez portent sur le même sujet : le meurtre, réel, de trois cent femmes aux alentours de la ville mexicaine de Juárez. Chacune de ces oeuvres traite ces événements en repoussant les limites du genre auquel elle est supposée appartenir. En effet, si le livre de Roberto Bolaño relève du domaine de la fiction, celui de Sergio Gonzaléz Rodriguez est généralement considéré comme une oeuvre de prose documentaire. La mise en regard de ces textes, qui brouillent la limite entre fiction et non-fiction, témoigne de la porosité des frontières génériques dans les écritures contemporaines, et invite à s’interroger sur leur pertinence.
