El ciclo de manifestaciones abierto en Chile con las revueltas estudiantiles contribuyó a alentar un debate sobre el modelo de país construido en la posdictadura, el cual, pese a los indudables avances en varios terrenos, ha consolidado una profunda mercantilización de la vida social. Más allá de las demandas en materia de educación, derechos indígenas, medio ambiente o género, el carácter masivo de las protestas desarrolladas durante 2011 ha puesto al país frente a sí mismo, en un momento en el que el actual presidente ha profundizado la retórica promercado y gobierna como si fuera el director de «Chile sa», y los ciudadanos, meros usuarios y consumidores.

The cycle of open demonstrations initiated in Chile with the students� revoltcontributed to feeding a debate about the country model that has been constructed since the dictatorship, in which, despite the undeniable advances in various fields, has consolidated a profound commodification of social life. Beyond the demands in areas of education, environment or gender, the massive nature of the protests during 2011 has pitted the country against itself, while the current president deepens the pro-market rhetoric and governs as if he were the director of «Chile Corp.» and the citizens, mere users and consumers.
