Resumen de SALUD Y POBREZA EN VENEZUELA. UN INTENTO DE APROXIMACIÓN HISTÓRICA A SU RELACIÓN CON EL PODER

  Luego de intentar definir los términos de salud y pobreza, guiado por los conceptos de Amartya Sen, Michel Chossudovski y Carmen Irene Rivero, hacemos notar que Venezuela ha sido desde sus inicios con la llegada de los conquistadores una tierra de pobreza donde la enfermedad causaba estragos. Carencia de instituciones adecuadas y de conocimientos sobre la enfermedad y sus causas hacían que Venezuela como el resto de la humanidad sufriera la tragedia que significaban las �pestes� prácticamente hasta los primeros años del siglo XX. Se trata de destacar la relación del Estado desde los inicios y desde las distintas visiones de gobierno que se han desarrollado en nuestro país, tratando de evidenciar los distintos enfoques sanitarios y de bienestar social de estos hacia la población. Se particularizan los gobiernos del siglo XX. Y cual ha sido su visión y aporte para la disminución de la pobreza y el mejoramiento de la salud y bienestar del pueblo. Se concluye esta aproximación histórica con el segundo gobierno del Dr. Rafael Caldera.

  After trying to define the terms health and poverty guided by the concepts of Amartya Sen, Michel Chossudovski and Carmen Irene Rivero, we remark that Venezuela has been from its beginning with the arrival of the conquerors, a ground of poverty where diseases have caused ravage.The lack of suitable institutions and medical knowledge made Venezuela, as the rest of humanity, suffer the tragedy of what �pests� meant almost until the first years of the XXth century. The purpose of this article is to emphasize the relation of the State from the foundations and from the different visions of government that have been developed in our country, trying to demonstrate the different sanitary and social well-being approaches of these, towards the population. In this way, the governments of the XXth century are distinguished, as well as their policies and contributions for decreasing poverty and improving people�s health and well-being.

  One concludes this historical approach with the analysis of Dr. Rafael Caldera�s second governmental period.
