Resumen de América Latina en el siglo XXI. Reflexiones críticas desde Asia del Este

Durante los 60 y 70, América Latina era considerada en Asia como una región de la cual se podía aprender. En los últimos años, sin embargo, los países de Asia del Este han logrado aventajar a los latinoamericanos en casi todas las áreas. Las razones hay que buscarlas en el modelo de desarrollo impulsado en Asia, que cambió a tiempo del crecimiento centrado en el mercado interno al crecimiento orientado a las exportaciones, pero también en la inversión en recursos humanos y en la estrategia de integración, que priorizó la integracional funcional sobre la retórica. El reciente incremento del precio de las materias primas y los altos índices de crecimiento registrados en América Latina han creado una nueva oportunidad para la región, que tal vez sea la última en mucho tiempo.

During the 60s and 70s, Latin America was considered in Asia a region from which there were things to be learned. Recently, however, East Asia has overtaken the Latin Americans in almost all spheres. The reasons are to be found in the development model adopted by Asia, which changed a growth tied to the internal market for one linked to exports in time, and which at the same time invested in human resources and in an integration which was more functional than rhetorical. The recent increases in the price of raw materials and the high growth rates registered in Latin America have given the region another opportunity, perhaps the last for a long time.
